If you always have the thought that Singapore doesn’t have much to offer, you may have missed some of the greatest pleasures in life. Should you explore every nook and cranny in Singapore, i’m pretty sure you will discover something unexpected, something unknown and unheard of.
On Friday night, i stepped foot into a part of Singapore i’ve heard little of. By public transportation, the place looked completely insignificant. If you didn’t have any intention to head towards that “insignificant” part of Singapore, you would have dismissed it as a row of private housing. Nothing spectacular in Singapore. It’s just housing, isn’t it?
Kok kok, with his superb sense of direction, brought me around the thicket of vegetation which blocked out the sight of the bungalows at Rochester Park. The first restaurant we came across was Min Jiang. Without knowledge of what it serves (other than it being Chinese cuisine) and its price, we were hesitant but decided to go for it.
A flip to the first page of the menu left me speechless. I continued flipping and it was fairly similar throughout. There wasn’t anything on the menu that signalled “affordable” to me. Thoughts of leaving flashed through my mind but it wasn’t very nice to leave when we were already seated and served with tea. I felt extremely paiseh.
When Kok kok ordered, i felt the pinch for him. Oh man… Yet he was super cool about it! >.<
This is by far the most expensive birthday treat i have had from a good friend. This is also the first time i experienced fine dining. And this is the first time where no matter what, i must finish every speck of food on my plate. Hahaha!
The Szechuan food served was slightly different from the normal fare. Every dish was specially prepared, in a style unlike what i usually had. The six course dinner comprised the prosperity toss with lots of salmon sashimi, three flavoured prawns, shark’s fin soup, Szechuan style stewed pork belly, jasmine fried rice with baby abalone and chilled aloe vera with ginseng. Almost every dish was a delicacy in itself.
Overall, the food was good! The broth for the shark’s fin wasn’t the starchy kind. It was thick and rich. In addition, the shark’s fin served was generous. Loved it! The rest of the food were special in their own ways (I’m too lazy to describe every single one of it. Haha). Yummy!
On the whole, the ambience, food and service were above average. I would be back when i am paid better. Haha.. It was definitely a worthwhile dining experience.
We went on to explore Rochester Park. It was a beauty. All restaurants located on the hill were housed in bungalows. They were really classy and appeal to the riches. Very much like another Demsey Hill.
After exploring Rochester Park, we explored Buona Vista. Neither of us had gone beyond One-North and Holland V in Buona Vista. Therefore, this was a good chance to walk a little further into the estates in Buona Vista. It was a nice night stroll to the bus stop although i didn’t know where i was half the time. Hahaha.. And there was a new discovery for the night! Kok kok has a chatty side to him too! Haha!
A godzillion thank you can’t express how much i appreciated the dinner treat Kok kok! Still, many thanks for the brand new experience :D
