Valentine’s Day

Posted: February 14, 2012 in Thoughts

Valentine’s Day is an occasion i reckon to be highly commercialised by the media.

It’s only on this day where you see guys carrying huge bouquets of roses (now that i come to think of it, i only saw roses the whole night) as gifts for their other halves. On other days of the year, guys are hardly seen with even a stalk of rose, much less a bouquet. I guess that’s typical of Asians.

Commercialising Valentine’s Day creates opportunities for couples, especially the conservative Asians, to express their liking or love for each other openly. Since everyone would be doing something similar, it doesn’t make the couple look like an oddball in the crowd. Haha..

At the same time, it gives retailers a boost to their businesses. Just watch how retailers stocked up their bouquets of flowers of varying sizes over the past few days. Who wouldn’t favour this win-win situation?

Of course, it is a happy occasion for those attached and those getting attached. The attached see it as another milestone in their relationships. The soon-to-be attached see it as an opportunity to blossom budding relationships. It is no wonder why many couples’ anniversaries fall on 14 February. Love cupids must be really busy on this day!

It was nice watching couples enjoying their lovers’ time – walking hand in hand, chit chatting and smiling at each other, laughing and teasing… It definitely is a blessing to love and be loved.

To all couples out there, Happy Valentine’s Day!

Not forgetting the singles, Happy Friendship Day! Even without the other half (for now), you are never alone with friends around you!
